Things I Love Thursday

This week’s Things I Love Thursday is all about beauty! I had a hard time narrowing down what I was going to write about because there are so many things I love, but here’s what I decided on:

Charlotte Tilbury Lip

When I got married, my wonderful cousin did my makeup for a couple of my events. She used Charlotte Tilbury products on me and I was instantly in love. After I got married, I started working from home and wore makeup maybe once a month, so I couldn’t really justify buying myself makeup. Then my sister got married and I decided I was going to treat myself to some makeup — yes, somehow in my brain, I justified spending more money on an event I was already spending a lot of money on. I saw a few Instagram posts of some beautiful lip colors from Charlotte Tilbury and after doing some research (Instagram and YouTube) I picked up a few things. I actually accidentally picked up 2 lipsticks in Walk of Shame, but I love the color so much that I ended up keeping it — okay, fine, I was just lazy. I do really love the colour though and I get a ton of compliments on it. Since they had a lipliner bundle, I decided to get both and saved a couple bucks. I also got lipliner in Pillow Talk, a lipstick in Penelope Pink, and a lip gloss in Portobello Girl. I combined all three of them for pinkish nude lips for my sister’s wedding because I did a smokey eye and didn’t want my lips to compete. The lip gloss made the rounds at the wedding (including the bride’s lips) and everyone loved it, so I feel like I did everyone a service by buying it. Yup, still justifying it. Honestly though, this is probably the best lipstick and lipliner I’ve used and really believe this is a perfect case of you get what you pay for. By the way, I sent myself a card with the purchase:

I so didn’t deserve this.

Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm

I am a huge culprit of wearing a lot of mascara. In fact, mascara is how I started using makeup and didn’t use anything except mascara for many years. To this day, it’s still my favorite makeup tool and I would give up anything and everything as long as I got to keep mascara. The downside of my love for mascara is that I constantly leave mascara smudges on towels after taking my makeup off. I will admit, I usually stick to wipes because I’m lazy, but no matter what cleanser I try, I always leave behind traces of mascara. I also have drier skin and don’t like to use harsh cleansers.

I recently got a sample of Clinique’s Take the Day Off cleansing balm and finally remembered to use it on a day I was wearing makeup. I was a little surprised by the consistency of it (think a pot of lip balm or hardened coconut oil) because I thought it would be softer. It melted pretty quickly once I rubbed it between my fingers and I loved how it felt on my skin. Once I was done, I dried my face on the towel and looked at it — fully expecting to see leftover mascara — but I was shocked that there was absolutely nothing. I also noticed my skin looked super clean but still really fresh and dewy instead of dry. It also didn’t dry out my skin at all. I feel like a little bit of those goes a long way so this sample should last me a while but I will definitely be buying this again. I really wish I had found this sooner!

Lush Cup O’Coffee Mask/Scrub

A couple of years ago, I was walking around the mall with Gagan and we wandered into Lush because of the smell. I was drinking coffee (as usual) and Gagan made a joke about my caffeine addiction to the sales associate, who quickly led me over to this coffee scrub. She gave me a sample, but I wasn’t really into skincare and didn’t think much of it. I finally tried the sample a few weeks later and it blew my mind! My skin was softer than it ever — like baby butt soft. Here’s the thing: I’m not easily impressed with skincare products because I was blessed with my mom’s amazing skin and I don’t easily see results since I don’t have skin issues besides occasional dryness. But when I washed this off my face, I could feel how smooth and soft it was and I could feel how nicely my moisturizer and makeup went on. I made my sister try it right away and she said she instantly felt a difference even when she washed it off her hands. Everyone I’ve recommended this to has raved about it and I highly recommend picking up a sample if you’re not convinced.  Plus, if you love coffee, you will love this smell!
